Pocket Reduction Procedure
Sometimes, a periodontal pocket reduction procedure is recommended because you have pockets that are too deep to clean with daily oral hygiene and a professional maintenance therapy.
During this procedure, the gum tissue is opened and disease-causing bacteria is removed before closing the tissue into place. This allows the gum tissue to better reattach to healthy bone and root, and decrease the chance of losing your natural teeth.
In some cases, bone graft and/or growth factors may be applied to stimulate new tissue growth to repair the areas that have been damaged by the periodontal disease
